We use a cognitive approach in order to develop an understanding of social behaviors. Learning about how to perceive the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of others help promote appropriate behavior which is perceived as having “good social skills”. The Social Thinking® framework developed by Michelle Garcia Winner, The Zones of Regulation® developed by Leah Kuypers and other research and evidence-based strategies are implemented into our lessons. Using these methods, we develop a customized program based on the individual’s level of social understanding and competency, as well as personal goals shared by the individual and his/her family members.

Valued Social Skills:

  • Perspective-taking
  • Emotional regulation
  • Impulse control
  • Reciprocity in conversation
  • Understanding the “big picture”
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Self-advocacy
